About Career Compass

Career Compass is a free résumé builder, ATS résumé checker and career guide library for Indian ex-servicemen (ESM) and retiring Armed Forces personnel moving into civilian careers. Career Compass is a VetNet Social product, operated by CommandHQ.

What Career Compass does

Career Compass helps you turn service experience into a clear civilian résumé, check it against the job you want, and plan the move with practical guidance.

  • Résumé builder: a step-by-step form for personal details, experience, education, skills, projects, certifications and achievements, with AI help to draft résumé language. You can download the finished résumé as a PDF.
  • ATS résumé checker: upload your résumé as a PDF (up to 1 MB) with a job description to get a score, relevance gaps and suggestions to improve it.
  • Career guides and résumé templates: guides on transition planning, translating service experience, ATS-friendly résumés, job search, interviews, Government and PSU applications, and evaluating job offers in India.

Who it serves

Career Compass is written for members of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force who are retiring or have retired: Sepoys, Naiks and Havildars; JCOs such as Naib Subedars, Subedars and Subedar Majors; equivalent Navy and Air Force ranks; and officers. It is also useful for family members who help them prepare applications.

The guides use Indian terms such as ex-servicemen, resettlement and re-employment, and point to Indian official sources rather than practices from other countries.

Free to use

The résumé builder, the résumé checker and the career guides are free to use, and no credit card is needed. You can read every guide without an account. To build or analyse a résumé, you need to sign in so your work and scores can be saved to your history.

Who runs Career Compass

Career Compass is a VetNet Social product, operated by CommandHQ. VetNet Social describes its mission as empowering veterans with a dedicated platform for networking, career development and community support. Support for Career Compass is handled at info@commandhq.in.

How our guides are written and reviewed

Career guides are prepared by the Career Compass editorial team. Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed, and lists the official sources it relies on so you can check the current position yourself. Sources include:

Rules on ex-servicemen status, reservation, age relaxation and resettlement training change and differ by post and jurisdiction. The current Government order and the recruitment notice always take priority over a guide. Our guides are general information, not legal, financial or recruitment advice.

How we use AI, and its limits

The résumé builder and checker use Google Cloud's Vertex AI (Gemini models) to score résumés, suggest improvements and draft résumé language.

  • AI output is a draft. Read it, correct it and keep only what is true about your service.
  • A score estimates how well a résumé matches a job description. It does not guarantee an interview, selection or a particular result in an employer's applicant tracking system.
  • AI output is not a decision about hiring, benefits or military status.

Coverage
